CapCut Templates Not Showing on PC? Here’s the Easy Fix!

Are you opening CapCut on your Windows PC only to find the Templates tab has completely vanished? You aren’t alone. This is one of the most common frustrations for desktop users, and often, the solution isn’t found in the standard help menus.

Whether your templates went missing after an update or never appeared in the first place, there are two main reasons why this happens and a simple “trick” to bring them back instantly.

Why Are My CapCut Templates Missing?

There are two primary reasons why your sidebar looks empty. Most users assume it’s a bug, but it usually comes down to regional restrictions or an outdated software version.

Step 1: Check Your CapCut Version

Before trying more technical fixes, ensure your software is up to date. Templates were stabilized in versions 4.5 and 4.8. If you are running a version older than this, the cloud-based template library simply won’t be available to you.

The Fix: Go to your CapCut settings and ensure you are on version 5.0 or higher to guarantee you have the latest features.

Step 2: The Location & VPN Solution

This is the most common culprit. In many regions—such as Spain or Austria—CapCut does not automatically show the templates tab due to local licensing or regional settings.

The easiest way to bypass this is by using a VPN.

  1. Close CapCut completely.
  2. Open your VPN (such as NordVPN) and set your location to the United States.
  3. Re-open CapCut.

In the U.S. region, the templates tab is enabled by default and should appear immediately.

Step 3: The “Project Refresh” Trick

Sometimes, even with the right version and location, the interface needs a “nudge” to refresh the sidebar. If you still don’t see the tab, follow these steps:

  1. Create a New Project: Click the “New Project” button.
  2. Wait: Stay inside the editing timeline for just a few seconds.
  3. Exit: Close that project and return to the main home screen.

Often, this forces the UI to sync with the server, and the Templates tab will appear in the left-hand sidebar. You’ll now have access to hundreds of trending memes, Vlogs, and TikTok intros.

Pro-Tip: Customizing Your Templates

Once the tab is visible, using them is simple. Browse for a style you like (such as a gaming intro or a product unboxing), click “Use template,” and wait for CapCut to download the assets. From there, you just swap the placeholder media with your own footage, and you’re ready to export!

Summary

To recap, if your CapCut templates are missing:

  • Update your software to version 5.0+.
  • Use a VPN set to the USA if you are in a restricted country.
  • Open and close a project to force the sidebar to refresh.
